Cyclist Killed, Motorcyclist Injured in Cayo Traffic Collision

A cyclist was killed and a motorcyclist injured in an early-morning traffic collision between Billy White and Santa Familia villages in the Cayo District yesterday. The accident occurred at approximately two-thirty near a curve in the Carmelita area.  Police say Moh suffered head and body injuries and was later pronounced dead at the San Ignacio Community Hospital.  ASP Stacy Smith briefed the media on the incident.

ACP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “Police have detained a 26-year-old male person as a part of an ongoing investigation into a road traffic accident which led to the death of Marcelo Coh, 37 years of age of Santa Familia Village, and the injury of 26-year-old Aidan Humes of Santa Familia Village. The investigation commenced at approximately 2:32 am on Sunday 16 August 2026 when police were alerted of a traffic accident in Billy White Village. Initial investigation indicate that the detained person was travelling on board a F-150 pickup truck from the direction of Billy White Village to Santa Familia Village when upon reaching a curve in that area a collision occurred between that vehicle he was travelling and the motorcycle which was being driven by Humes as well as a bicycle that was being ridden by Moh. Both Moh and Hume sustain injuries in the course of the collision, however Moh who received grave injuries succumbed while undergoing treatment. The circumstance of the collision remains under investigation.”

Humes sustained bodily injuries and was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for treatment while  Mallen was detained shortly after the collision as police continued their investigation.
