In a coordinated anti-crime operation early Sunday morning, law enforcement officers arrested 21 individuals and seized cash and alcohol during a raid in the D’Abadie district.

The intelligence-led exercise, conducted between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., was carried out by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Maloney Police Station. According to police reports, officers targeted a business establishment in the area, where a search revealed a concealed room hidden behind a wall.

Inside the room, several men were found engaged in gambling activities. The owner of the premises, along with 20 men, was taken into custody. Authorities confirmed that the owner is expected to face charges of operating a common house and selling intoxicating liquor, while the men will be charged with assembling to gamble.

During the search, officers seized Trinidad and Tobago currency amounting to $10,527, along with several bottles of alcohol. Investigators believe the establishment was being used as a hub for illicit gambling and unlicensed liquor sales.

The operation was directed by Superintendent Mc Kenzie, Assistant Superintendent Balewa, Assistant Superintendent Morales, Inspector Smith, and Woman Sergeant Ramai. Police officials emphasized that the raid was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal gambling operations and curb related criminal activity in the district.

Authorities have stated that the arrests mark a significant step in addressing community concerns about underground gambling and unregulated liquor sales. The suspects remain in custody as charges are being processed.
