Jamaican singer-songwriter D’Yani is opening up about the emotional inspiration behind his latest single ‘Miss You Bad’, a soulful lovers’ rock track that explores the difficult space between heartbreak, desire, and the struggle to let go.

The song, which offers a preview of his upcoming album Live Life & Prosper, due August 21, captures the intense emotions that come with missing someone so deeply that their absence begins to feel overwhelming.

Through haunting melodies, live instrumentation, and D’Yani’s signature raspy vocals, the artiste paints a picture of a love that feels impossible to escape.

According to D’Yani, the single was created to reflect the painful reality of becoming emotionally dependent on someone, even when the connection may no longer be healthy.

“My intention for the song was to capture the emotional pain of missing someone so deeply that their absence feels like withdrawal from an addictive substance,” he said.

D’Yani explained that the song’s references to addiction-like feelings were intentioned, highlighting the emotional conflict that comes with being unable to break away from a powerful attachment.

“Through its repeated references to being ‘hooked’, craving a ‘high’, and ‘relapsing’, it portrays an unhealthy attachment where love becomes a dependency rather than a source of comfort. Despite knowing the attachment is unhealthy, there is an overwhelming desire to return, making the emotions feel both heartbreaking and relatable,” he said.

The singer added that the track is ultimately about the battle between accepting the end of a relationship and holding on to the memories and emotions that remain.

“Overall, I try to paint a powerful picture of love, obsession, vulnerability, and the struggle between wanting to let go and being unable to break free from an emotional bond,” D’Yani said.

With Miss You Bad, D’Yani continues to showcase his ability to merge reggae, lovers’ rock, soul, and personal storytelling, further building anticipation for Live Life & Prosper, a project expected to explore themes of love, faith, growth, and self-discovery.

The 12-track album follows the release of Journey, the uplifting single unveiled in June alongside a live acoustic choir session that premiered exclusively on the GRAMMY Global Spin platform.

While Journey highlighted his inspirational side, Miss You Bad offers a deeper look into D’Yani’s vulnerability, exploring the emotional weight of love, loss, and longing.
