The atmosphere at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre in St James was electric as dancehall crooner D’Yani poured his heart into every note on the Reggae Sumfest stage.

While the singer initially kept it simple with feel-good songs like Live a Little, the mood quickly changed as he began catering to his female audience members.

With hit songs like Señorita and Pretty Little Barbie, it was hard to distinguish between the piercing screams of the excited audience and the sound equipment.

The talented entertainer brought his set to a close with Feelings, his popular collab with Jada Kingdom.

And while the Heavy! singer wasn’t present, the song carried the same weight.

This was D'Yani's third performance on the Sumfest main stage.

LADEN RETURNS

Earlier dancehall artiste Laden proved the lasting popularity of his hits as he returned to the main Reggae Sumfest stage after a 13-year absence.

Fitting for the occasion, the entertainer opened his set with his hit song Time to Shine, the crowd’s response showing that the song still resonated.

He quickly followed that up with Working Hard while enthusiastically moving across the Reggae Sumfest stage.

“It’s good to be back, Sumfest!” Laden said.

He last performed on the Reggae Sumfest main stage in 2011, the same year Vybz Kartel last appeared on the Sumfest stage.

Laden was released from prison in 2023 after serving more than two years for gun possession.

Festival Night One of Reggae Sumfest is expected to bring together the likes of Kartel, Masicka and more, and will see Kartel crowned King of Dancehall by Dancehall Queen Spice.
