Dahlia Harris scores 18 Actor Boy nominations for ‘Pull Up’

Pull Up, the critically acclaimed Jamaican revue produced by DMH Productions, has made an impressive impact at the prestigious Actor Boy Awards with an outstanding 18 nominations across multiple categories. The production has already secured three early wins, Best Ensemble, Best Revue, and the only two nominations for Original Song, making it an obvious winner in that category.

Harris, who is extremely proud of her team, says the nominations solidify Pull Up as one of the most celebrated theatrical productions of the year.

“At our very first meeting we set specific goals for the production and ways in which it could distinguish itself from our previous Best Revue winner Jamaica Land We Love, while maintaining its high standard. We put in a lot of work, and these early awards and nominations underscore that. We are truly grateful,” Harris said.

Hailed for its sharp social commentary, dynamic performances, and engaging humour, Pull Up has captivated audiences with its vibrant storytelling and cultural resonance.

The play, which delves into contemporary Jamaican life with authenticity, stands as a strong contender in multiple categories, including Best Production; Best Director (Dahlia Harris); Best Supporting Actress (Shanique Brown, Maylynne Lowe, Dahlia Harris); Best Supporting Actor (Everaldo Creary, Junior Williams); Original Score (Williams, Barclay, Cooper); Choreography (Paul Newman); Sound Design (Thaad Pinnock and Dahlia Harris); New Jamaican Play (Dahlia Harris); Costume Design (Marie Lovelock); Set Design (Marie Lovelock); and Best Comedy.

Fresh on the heels of the recent Jamaica Women in Theatre Festival, Harris who has earned six individual nominations, says theatre remains a powerful medium for storytelling, and as a woman in the industry, she strives to uphold the legacy of the women who have gone before her.

“I want to not only entertain but also to empower ... to offer thought-provoking narratives that challenge societal norms and inspire change. As women we must play a vital role in shaping the cultural landscape. I aim to continue to learn, grow, and contribute as much as I can,” Harris said.

The Actor Boy Awards, which celebrate excellence in Jamaican theatre, will announce the final winners in an upcoming ceremony. With 18 nominations, Pull Up remains a front-runner in this year’s event, reinforcing the production’s status as a standout in the local performing-arts scene.
