Bruno Mars’s “Liquor Store Blues” featuring Damian Marley has officially earned a Gold certification in Canada. According to Music Canada, as of November 12, 2025, the track has sold over 40,000 units in streams and sales in the country. The achievement is Marley’s first Canadian Gold single arriving 15 years after the song’s release.

Originally released on September 21, 2010, “Liquor Store Blues” was the first single from Doo-Wops & Hooligans and it revealed Mars’s interest in cross-genre experimentation.

The song debuted and peaked at No. 97 on the Canadian Hot 100, while in the United States it narrowly missed the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 5 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. It earned additional traction on genre-specific formats, peaking at No. 20 on the U.S. Latin Pop Airplay chart and spending seven weeks there. Internationally, the track charted in Romania, where it reached No. 74 on the Romanian Top 100.

“Liquor Store Blues” becomes the third song featuring a Jamaican artist to pick up major certification in Canada in 2025, following:

  • “Risky” – Davido ft. Popcaan → Certified January 2025

  • “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” – YG Marley → Certified Platinum in June 2025

The Gold award for “Liquor Store Blues” was only one part of a remarkable surge of Canadian certifications for Mars, who received more than a dozen new awards across November 12 and 14—including six Diamond singles(800,000 units).

In Canada, digital and physical single sales are combined with their on-demand streaming equivalents. Each digital or physical sale counts as one unit toward a Single Award, while 160 eligible premium on-demand audio or video streams are equivalent to one unit, and 240 eligible ad-supported on-demand audio or video streams equal one unit. Together, these components form the total unit count used to certify a single.
