The Ministry of Transportation is taking steps to improve public transportation infrastructure, starting with the new upgrades to the Dangriga Bus Terminal. Both the Minister, Dr Louis Zabaneh and the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Transportation, Chester Williams, visited the terminal to oversee the initial phase of a planned uplift. As part of the improvements, new seating, generously provided by the Belize Airport Authority, has been installed for commuters. A television has also been mounted to enhance the commuter experience, offering news and travel updates. Love News spoke with Williams who explained what their intentions are with the terminal.

Chester Williams, CEO, Ministry of Transport: “We’re here doing a bit of uplifting for the terminal. As you can see we have installed some chairs. These chairs that we’re installing were granted to us by the airport authority this week and it fit perfectly well with what we wanted to do in terms of uplifting the standards at the terminals across the country. And so we installed them today along with that we have also installed a 55 inch television that displays the schedule for the buses and as well as other commercials looking at road safety tips and so forth. We will also be doing some painting and do a bit of facelifting to the floor and doing the epoxy floor. Again we’re trying to bring the terminal to a certain standard. Currently the front door here does not have a door, it’s just a burglar bar, when it rains water comes in. So we brought with us some people from Gallardo and they have taken the measurement and next week they’ll come and install a glass door at the front that will be able to open and close. So again we’re trying to make the terminal as best as we can. We know the importance of the terminal to our commuters and again putting the terminal in a state where it is more conducive to our commuters is very important.”
Similar enhancements were made to Belize City a few weeks ago and are expected to be implemented at other bus terminals across the country.
