A Dangriga mother is desperate for answers tonight after her 30-year-old son has been missing for more than two weeks. Amelia Cherinton says her son Richard, who suffers from schizophrenia, was last seen leaving the Munnings River community on May 21st, and since then, she has only heard rumors about his possible whereabouts.
Mother: “Well my son went missing from the 21st of May to be exact. We hear different things. People say he is this side and he’s that side but when we contact and so we don’t find him so we don’t know what to say.”
Reporter: What’s the name of your son ?
Mother: “Cherrington.”
Reporter: How old is he ?
Mother: “30 year old.”
Reporter: Okay so when was the last time you saw him ?
Mother: “The 21st of May to be exact. Three weeks yesterday made exact.”
Reporter: He just left Mullins River ?
Mother: “Mhmm. The last place we saw him he was standing around the church and so we sent for the police for them to come assist him to get him to the hospital and from then we don’t know where he got to. We never did see him anymore.”
Reporter: Does he have any medical condition ?
Mother: “Yes he has a mental thing because he was in the hospital in Belmopan for like three weeks. A month and change before he was discharged. He left from home from the 21st that was the last we saw him and we only hear people say that they saw him in Hope Creek, some say he was in Roaring Creek but any time we go and ask questions and so nothing.”
Reporter: So if people would see him and they want to reach somebody who can they reach and contact number ?
Mother: “Well I would want them to reach back to the hospital as quickly as possible because he hasn’t been on his medication for the past three weeks and that is needed for him.”
Reporter: Is he a violent person ?
Mother: “No. No because even the psychiatric nurse from Dangriga had come to visit the community nurse there and talked to them and told them that he needs to get to the hospital to get his medication.”
