Dangriga Opens 16 Days of Activism With Call for Stronger Advocacy

Activities in Dangriga were officially launched in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism which runs until December 10.  Clementina Castillo of the National Women’s Commission is the organizer of the events scheduled for the next 16 days.  She explained the need for continuous advocacy and how today’s lineup reflects this.

“We have the different primary schools coming out. If you see that we have an orange to show support for those that have survived domestic violence, those that are currently going through it because I mean it is something that is currently happening in our country and we hear of it often and so we are here advocating because it needs to stop. Today our program we have speakers that have survived domestic violence. We have Ms. Jolene Danson. We have Mr. Dorlan Serrano he’ll talk about his life. We have a youth advocate, Mr. Richard Martinez, who is also a master of ceremony and he will give a speech for today. We have the different primary school out here supporting us. I mean we have Sacred Heart Marching Band that will be leading the march. After we’re finished here from the ceremony then we take out march through the municipal street of Dangriga advocating for  activism against gender-based violence. The calendar that is out that will lead every the 16 days I mean there are different events leading up to the 16 days of this gender-based violence and it ends on December 10th.”

The theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism is, ‘End digital violence against all women and girls’
