EDWIN ALLEN’S Dashanelle Clarke and Kingston College’s Daquan Dawkins ruled supreme at the JAAA Age Group Multi-Events Trial at Jamaica College yesterday, topping their counterparts in the 13-14 age group.
The two-day trial, which ended yesterday, was used to select athletes for the July 4–6 NACAC Under-13/15 Championships to be held in Managua, Nicaragua.
In the girls’ event, Edwin Allen High School’s Dashianelle Clarke topped the heptathlon —seven events — amassing 3,996 points. She finished ahead of teammate Danielle Clarke, who was second with 3,864 points, while Holmwood Technical’s Meya Thomas ended third with 3,742 points.
Dashianelle Clarke dominated across the two days, winning the 60m hurdles (9.27 seconds), long jump (5.25 metres), high jump (1.50 metres), and ball throw (47.66 metres). She was also third in the 80m (10.36), eighth in the 1000m (3:52.86), and 10th in the shot put with a heave of 7.22 metres.
Dawkins tallied 5,121 points to finish ahead of teammate Nahjier Francis, who scored 4,935, while Nicholas Jones of Lacovia High was third with 4,920 points.
Dawkins claimed victory in three events — the 80m hurdles (11.57), long jump (6.37m), and high jump (1.86m). He was fourth in the ball throw (56.93m), fifth in the 1200m (3:54.27), seventh in the shot put (11.26m), and 10th in the 80m (9.89).
Athletes from Lyssons Primary in St Thomas, the recent All-Island Primary School champions, showed their mettle in the 11–12 age group, coming out on top among the boys and finishing second among the boys. Competitors in this group participated in the pentathlon.
St Patrick’s Janoi Daley emerged on top among the girls with 2,536 points, followed closely by Lysson’s Danelia Speid in second with 2,534. Javonah McKenzie of Naggo Head was third with 2,479 points.
Daley was first in the high jump (1.40m), second in the 60m (8.67), second in the ball throw (38.90), fourth in the 800m (2:48.82), and seventh in the long jump (4.15m).
Among the boys, Davere Walker secured victory for Lyssons with 2,985 points. He notched wins in the 60m (8.05), high jump (1.55m), and long jump (5.25m). He also placed fifth in the 1000m (3:27.76) and 10th in the ball throw (33.04m).
Ricardo Granville of Naggo Head Primary finished second with 2,913 points, while Rushawn Edwards of APP Track Academy was third with 2,898.
