Fans are already dubbing this festive season a 'Gully Christmas', as dancehall star Mavado gears up for his highly anticipated return to the Jamaican stage on December 27.

The I'm on The Rock hitmaker is set to perform at Plantation Cove in Priory, St Ann, at Reggae Fest Jamaica - The Return of The Gully Gad Mavado.

Mavado, who had remained overseas since a 2018 warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, returned on October 14 and saw it dropped following a meeting with his lawyer and law enforcement officials.

Reggae Fest Jamaica is promoted by CJ Milan, whose Reggae Fest Tour has made several successful runs internationally, featuring major acts such as Vybz Kartel, Capleton, Shenseea, Bounty Killer, and Elephant Man. The next leg of the tour will now see Mavado headlining on home soil.

Born and raised in Cassava Piece, Mavado rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with a string of chart-topping hits. His breakout single, Real McKoy, established him as a rising star, followed by popular tracks such as Weh Dem A Do and So Special. He later became a central figure in the infamous Gully/Gaza rivalry and released his critically acclaimed debut album, Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, in 2007.

Over the years, Mavado has signed with major international record labels including VP Records, We the Best Music Group, and Cash Money Records, collaborating with global artistes such as Jay-Z, Akon, and Nicki Minaj. He adopted the stage name 'Mavado', inspired by the Swiss watch brand Movado, with a slight variation in spelling.

He will celebrate his 44th birthday on November 30, just weeks before his long-awaited return to the Jamaican stage.
