Residents of Bethlehem Road, Bethel, in Tobago were left shocked after a decomposing body was found inside an abandoned house yesterday, months after they first complained about a foul smell in the area.
Police said residents first noticed the stench in August but could not identify its source. Around 5 pm yesterday, a 35-year-old Tobago Emergency Management Agency worker decided to check an old two-storey house at #26 Bethlehem Road and made the discovery.
She found the body lying near the bathroom area and immediately raised an alarm. Officers from the Shirvan Police Station responded and cordoned off the scene.
Crime Scene officers processed the area before the body was removed.
Police have not yet confirmed the identity or gender of the deceased.
An autopsy will be conducted at the Scarborough Hospital Mortuary to determine the cause of death.
Investigations are continuing.
