Defence Force, QPCC stay perfect

Defending champion Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force and Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) both won for their second straight time when the T&T Hockey Board Indoor Championships Men’s Open Division continued at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, Port-of-Spain, on Sunday (September 13).

The Army/Coast Guard combination improved to a 2-0 record and a maximum of six points via a 7-1 clobbering of Malvern led by two goals each from Shaquille Daniel (19th, 38th) and Sheldon De Lisle (35th, 37th).

The trio of Mickel Pierre (23rd), Dylan Francis (25th), and Daniel Byer (29th) added a goal each for the Defence Force after Malvern led through Jovan Wren’s 13th-minute penalty-corner conversion.

The Parkites trailed Defence Force only on goal-difference after their 4-2 defeat of Trinidad and Tobago Police Service behind four goals from captain Jordan Vieira.

Vieira scored early, as the second minute, and added items in the 19th, 25th, and 32nd, while Police, who won their opening match, got their two replies from veterans Akim Toussaint in the sixth and Dwain Quan Chan in the 37th.

Paragon was also in the winners’ row on the night, with captain Kiel Murray scoring a beaver trick as well (12th, 16th, 22nd, 28th) in their 7-3 whipping of Fatima.

Joel Daniel added two goals for Paragon in the 29th and 37th minutes, and Daniel McKie, the other, in the tenth minute, while Fatima got a double from guest player Nicholas Whiteman in the fourth and 40th minutes, and one from Zack Gowsack in the 39th.

It was a productive day for Paragon hockey club on the whole, as both their Paragon I and Paragon II women’s teams were also in the winners’ row in their respective women’s Open Division encounters.

Led by a beaver trick from Mikeshia De Silva (first, fourth, ninth, 33rd), Paragon I thrashed Police 8-0, with Zuriel Antoine (second, 38th) adding two goals and Gabrielle Thompson (12th) and Felicia King-Ashby (24th) the others.

And Paragon II mauled Harvard Checkers 8-1 behind five goals from Danielle Thompson (19th, 24th, 27th, 29th, 39th) and a double from Analeigh Beatrice (fourth, 34th).

Naomi Holder got the scoring started for Paragon in the first minute, while Harvard Checkers’ lone item came off the stick of Jael Thompson in the ninth minute.

In the Men’s Trinity Division, Kenny Kansinally scored a hat-trick to inspire Notre Dame to an entertaining 7-5 win over Fatima.

Kansinally got his goals in the ninth, 20th, and 28th, and was well supported by Nicholas Whiteman (first, 4th) and Gregory Garraway (17th, 18th) with two goals each, while Fatima got two from Dante Jones (25th, 28th) and one apiece from Zack Gowsack (second), Matthew Newallo (30th), and Scott Pichery (37th).
