Desal plant back in operation ahead of schedule

The Point Lisas Desalination Plant has resumed operations earlier than expected after its annual maintenance shutdown.

Plant owner and operator DESALCOTT completed the work this morning, two days before the original August 24 deadline. Production is now ramping up and expected to reach the full capacity of 40 million gallons per day by midnight tomorrow.

According to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), customers in parts of Central and South Trinidad should see service improve over the weekend, though it may take up to 48 hours for systems to fully stabilise.

Crews will continue working to maximise supply to affected areas in line with temporary schedules during this period.
