Dancehall star Dexta Daps is making major inroads internationally, scoring two Silver certifications in one week in the United Kingdom—one as a solo artist and the other as a featured collaborator on a global Afrobeats project. The back-to-back accolades not only signal a turning point in his career but also affirm his growing influence on the global stage, especially as Jamaican music continues to expand its reach.
His 2015 breakout hit “Shabba Madda Pot,” produced by DASECA, has officially been certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) after surpassing 200,000 units sold, marking Dexta Daps’ first solo UK certification. The gritty, heartfelt track remains his most-streamed song on Spotify with over 46 million plays, and serves as a cultural salute to Mama Christie, the late mother of Shabba Ranks. In a celebratory Instagram post, he thanked fans with a heartfelt message: “Many Thanks to the Dapanation Dapadarians💪🏿🙏🏿.”
Adding to the momentum, Daps was also featured on “Bop,” a track from Davido’s Silver-certified album Timeless, which has now sold over 100,000 units in the UK. The Afro-dancehall fusion introduced Daps to new international audiences, helping him notch his first appearance on the Billboard US Afrobeats Song Chart, where the song debuted at No. 22 in April 2023. The collaboration highlighted Daps’ versatility and underlined his role in bridging Caribbean and African musical cultures.
These dual wins firmly establish Daps within the global conversation, not just as a Jamaican hitmaker, but as a genre-blurring collaborator capable of elevating dancehall beyond its traditional boundaries. With additional hits like Call Me If and Owner under his belt, the dancehall crooner is steadily positioning himself among the top Jamaican exports in modern music.
As Afrobeats continues to dominate international charts and streaming platforms, Dexta Daps’ alignment with the movement—without losing his dancehall essence—signals a promising trajectory. Whether paying tribute to Jamaican icons or riding the wave of Afro-Caribbean fusion, Daps is proving that his voice, message, and impact are undeniably timeless.
