Diabetes Warriors camp to support Belizean youth with Type 1 diabetes

Several children and young people living with Type 1 diabetes will participate in the Diabetes Warriors Youth Summer Camp from July 27 to July 30 at the Lion’s Den in Belize City.  The four-day initiative is intended to give participants an opportunity to meet others managing the same condition while receiving practical information and support. Organizers say the camp will address aspects of diabetes management, including health monitoring, treatment routines and decision-making.  Living with Type 1 diabetes can also present challenges at school, during social activities and in other everyday situations. The camp is therefore expected to provide a space for participants to discuss those experiences, build friendships and learn from one another.  Belize Diabetes and Hypertension Association Office Manager Anna Cortez explained the purpose of the initiative.

The camp forms part of ongoing efforts to improve awareness and support for children and youth living with Type 1 diabetes in Belize.
