Diplomat Alexis Rosado’s Sexual Offences Trial Adjourned After Lawyer Dismissed

The sexual offences trial of Belizean diplomat Alexis Roberto Rosado was adjourned today after he dismissed one of his two defence attorneys, Leeroy Banner. Rosado requested time to secure another lawyer, and Justice Natalie Creary Dixon granted an adjournment until nine tomorrow morning at the Belmopan High Court. The fifty-six-year-old is facing charges of rape, sexual assault and aggravated assault upon a female. His trial began yesterday, with prosecutor Riis Cattouse calling the investigating officer and an information technology manager from the Immigration Department. The IT manager’s testimony concerned Rosado’s travel records and whether he was in Belize at the time relevant to the allegations.  Four prosecution witnesses, including the complainant, were scheduled to testify today. Their evidence was postponed following the change in Rosado’s legal representation. His other attorney, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, was absent when the matter came before the court, reportedly because he had another court engagement in Belize City.  Rosado was arrested and charged in April 2022 and indicted in January 2024. The allegations include a rape said to have occurred in 2013. Yesterday, Justice Creary Dixon denied a defence request for an adjournment, noting that the matter had already been adjourned numerous times.  The trial is scheduled to resume tomorrow, October 7, at nine in the morning.
