South Florida’s DJ Reem of Champion Squad delivered a stellar performance at the recently held Vybz Kartel & Friends show at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Sharing a 60-minute set alongside fellow DJ, Dutty Dex, Reem helped to warm up the sold out crowd for the World Boss, Vybz Kartel.
The night started off with Dutty Dex, renowned as “The Mayor Of Miami”, and Reem completely destroying the place musically as they got the patrons ready for the World Boss with some of the biggest forwards of the night during their set. Dutty Dex began as the MC while Reem was mixing. Then, they switched roles with Reem in the foreground commanding the crowd by having them waving from side to side and singing along to every song.
Dutty Dex returned to the microphone after 20 minutes and had the crowd turn on their phone lights. With the whole arena lit up, people started waving the lights in the air while T.O.K’s ‘When You Cry’ was playing and totally shelled the place. One of the biggest forwards of the night was when they played Mavado’s ‘Gangsta Life’ as their last song.
DJ Reem stated, “Dutty Dex and I showcasing our talent on a major stage like Vybz Kartel & Friends was an amazing experience. The crowd was cheering when we introduced each other on stage. It was a great moment for us. We saw how much of a mark we’ve made in our home town.”
Gyptian performed first as the opening act. Other performers included Russian, Offset, DJ Khaled, Majah Myjah, who’s the son of Bounty Killa, and Stefflon Don. When Vybz Kartel came out on stage, he first performed ‘Miami Vice Episode’ and he had the place going crazy from start to finish. He then brought out Russian and the others to give the night a climactic ending.
DJ Reem continued, “The show was great from start to finish. I got to witness the World Boss aka the King of Dancehall for our times live in concert after being locked up for 13 years and not being able to perform in Florida for 25 years. I felt like this was his best performance so far, especially vocally. You can tell he’s getting better with his health. The energy was just different!”
“It was an incredible experience to be on a stage for the greatest dancehall artist, Vybz Kartel. To see a whole arena giving forwards to the command of my voice is a sensational feeling,” added Dutty Dex.
