The Department of the Environment is deepening its collaboration with key players in Belize’s sugar industry through the BAC SUF Project, engaging the four sugar industry associations, BSI, and SIRDI in a series of information-sharing sessions. During the engagements, the DOE outlined its roles and functions, legal mandate, and the environmental clearance process, while also highlighting national and regional environmental initiatives relevant to the sector. The DOE said the initiative is aimed at building stronger partnerships to address environmental challenges, promote sustainable practices, and support the long-term resilience and growth of Belize’s sugar industry, with the agency expressing confidence that the open dialogue will contribute to a more sustainable industry and a healthier future for the country.
