The Department of the Environment (DOE) held a public consultation in the Mahogany Heights community last night to engage residents about the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed Spanish Lookout farming project. The project titled Spanish Lookout Community Corporation Limited aims to expand agricultural activities, primarily in grain production, in an area near mile 31 on the George Price Highway. At last night’s consultation, presenters gave details of the proposed project to the public and fielded questions from attendees. Social specialist, Fermin Olivera, gave an overview of the project and how the six thousand plus acres are expected to be used.
Environmental Technician Marco Escalante explained the EIA process and why this project needed an EIA.
The EIA for Spanish Lookout Community Corporation Limited was approved in 2022. Following last night’s consultation, the EIA may be amended based on public feedback. If there are any recommended changes, a follow-up consultation will be done to inform the public
