Don Wehby, one of Jamaica’s most respected private sector leaders, has died.
He was 62-years-old.
Wehby passed away at the Tony Thwaites wing of the University Hospital following a long illness. A priest administered the last rite some time after 6 Saturday evening.
Wehby was surrounded by family.
His death marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned both the corporate boardroom and halls of government.
For 14 years, Wehby served as Group CEO of GraceKennedy, one of Jamaica’s most iconic brands. He stepped down from the helm of the company in October 2024, citing health reasons.
During his tenure, Wehby led GraceKennedy through an era of sustained growth and international expansion, earning admiration for his steady leadership and vision.
Beyond the private sector, Wehby also answered the call to national service. He was appointed a government senator and served as Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance during the Bruce Golding administration.
He stepped down from the ministerial role in 2009 and returned to the private sector.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to business and national development, Wehby was awarded the Order of Jamaica in October 2024.
A proud alumnus of St. George’s College, Wehby was known not only for his intellect and professionalism, but for his deep sense of patriotism and humility. He was an avid cricket and horse racing fan.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
