Dow fires Barataria Nettaz to commanding win over PNYC

​Alaya Dow spearheaded a dominant performance for Barataria Nettaz, scoring 18 goals from 31 attempts to lead her team to a commanding 21-7 victory over Police Netball Youth Club (PNYC) on Tuesday afternoon, in the opening round of the Courts All Sectors Netball League Under-16 tournament.

​The goal-shooter helped set the tempo early in the matchup, ensuring her squad controlled the pace from the opening whistle in the second match of a triple-header at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua.

​Supported by teammates Shenice Matthews (1/2), Shekinah Grant (1/5), and Jayda Barry (1/2), who chipped in one goal apiece, Dow’s scoring prowess kept PNYC under constant pressure. PNYC struggled to find their rhythm against a suffocating Nettaz defence, with their opening shooting duo–goal-shooter Jenaya Balroop (0/4) and goal-attack Anessa Serrette (1/5)–combining for just one goal from nine attempts.

​PNYC tried two other players in the goal-attack bib, introducing Raenele Felix and later Tanisha Dann. Felix (1/6) added one goal during her run, while Dann fought hard to keep them in the game by netting five of her six attempts. However, it was not enough to mount a serious comeback against a dominant Barataria lineup that comfortably swept every quarter: 6-1 in the first, 9-1 at halftime, and 15-6 by the end of the third.

​The action-packed day of youth netball featured three decisive fixtures. Arima United and Cardinals also secured convincing victories to round out Tuesday’s tournament schedule.

​Arima United overcame a tight first-quarter deficit against Soul City to surge ahead for a 20-9 win, propelled by a stellar 17-goal performance from Tianna Huggins, who replaced Kaleen Plaza (2/9) in the goal-shooter position. Meanwhile, Cardinals eased past Bermudez United 23-7, powered by Mariah Navarro (9/13) and Lorraine Rocke (7/13), who combined for 16 goals to anchor their team’s success.
