Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard discovered his father’s decomposing body in his father’s home in San Fernando on Sunday but police said they do not suspect foul play.
Around 5:30 pm, Gaspard visited his father, Joseph Gaspard, 89, who rented an apartment on Hickling Street and lived alone. After making several calls without receiving a response, he used a spare key to open the door.
Gaspard found his father’s body lying face down on a bed.
Police said Gaspard Sr. suffered from hypertension. Another tenant told police that he had last seen him around 8:30 pm on Friday, standing by a window in his apartment. A District Medical Officer examined the body and ordered its removal to a funeral home pending an autopsy at the San Fernando mortuary.
Police said the body showed no signs of violence.
San Fernando police are continuing investigations.
