Renowned hip-hop producer and entrepreneur Dr. Dre has officially joined the ranks of the world’s billionaires, according to the Forbes 2026 Billionaires List.
The confirmation comes nearly twelve years after Dre initially claimed billionaire status following the sale of his headphone company Beats by Dre.
Sale of Beats by Dre
In May 2014, Dre publicly declared himself “hip-hop’s first billionaire” after he and longtime business partner Jimmy Iovine sold Beats to Apple for approximately US$3 billion.
Following the acquisition, the company was incorporated into Apple Music, expanding Apple’s presence in the global music streaming market.
Although Dre celebrated the milestone at the time, financial analysts later clarified that his personal earnings from the transaction did not immediately elevate him to billionaire status. However, Forbes has now confirmed that continued business ventures and investments have enabled him to officially cross the billion-dollar threshold.
Placement on the Global Wealth List
Despite reaching billionaire status, Dre ranks relatively low on the global wealth rankings. On the 2026 list, he is tied for 3,332nd place among the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Others sharing a similar ranking include Jared Kushner, Rihanna, and steel industry executive Richard Teets Jr..
Billionaire Musicians
With this recognition, Dre becomes the sixth musician to achieve billionaire status, joining an exclusive group that includes Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, and Rihanna.
Career and Legacy
Born Andre Young, Dr. Dre rose to prominence as a member of the influential hip-hop group N.W.A before launching a successful solo career. Over the years, he has also become one of the most respected producers in the music industry, helping to shape the careers of several prominent artists.
Beyond music, his ventures in technology and business have solidified his reputation as both a cultural icon and a successful entrepreneur.
