Driver escapes after abduction, robbery

A 39-year-old ride-share driver escaped with his life after being kidnapped while on his way to pick up a passenger.

According to police reports, around 5 pm on Saturday, the victim accepted a transport request from a female passenger who wished to be taken to Holliday Inn, Oropune Gardens.

Guardian Media understands that when the driver arrived at the pickup point for the passenger, he was confronted by three men who jumped into his vehicle and announced a robbery.

The man told police that the trio then ordered him to drive out of Rigsby Lane and onto Rudolph Charles Link Road, where they tied up his hands and feet and placed a dark coloured cloth over his head.

He was then tossed into the trunk of his car.

His assailants later abandoned the vehicle and made their escape.

The victim managed to escape the vehicle and later reported the matter to officers at the Besson Street Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing.
