Dub Squad’s Tuesday Service celebrated its one-year anniversary in style on Tuesday at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, moving away from their usual weekly spot at The Compound. The milestone event, in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and Wray & Nephew for Reggae Month, highlighted the power of live music, community, and cultural preservation, attracting a diverse crowd of both loyal fans and first-time attendees.

Several musicians and artistes joined Panic and his Dub Squad team to celebrate the event. Reflecting on the evening. Panic was deeply moved by the overwhelming love and support that surrounded them.

“I am humbled, very humbled. It was a wonderful experience, and I am truly appreciative of all that has happened. I even got a little emotional at one point because I was so happy for the youths. They work hard, they put in the effort, and it was heartwarming to see them experience the love from the patrons that night,” he said.

He also expressed profound gratitude to JCDC and Wray & Nephew for their role in making the event possible.

“This was a collaborative effort from both sponsors, and I am thankful for everything they have done to bring light to the culture. I love the culture and live music, and I think this is a really good step toward celebrating live music in Jamaica and the authenticity that Dub Squad brings.”

Describing the tunout as “humbling”, he said. “The turnout was really good. I expected it to be good ... I think we deserved it because we put in a lot of good work. This event was really a culmination of the different crowds that visit The Compound on a weekly basis. Each week, we see a different set of people, so this anniversary brought all our different audiences together, and it was a beautiful sight,” Panic told The Gleaner.

Among the notable artistes in attendance was reggae and dancehall star Christopher Martin, who lauded the initiative.

“First and foremost, mi waa big up the sponsors JCDC and Wray & Nephew who saw it fit to sponsor such an event. It is nice to be on the ground and see what is happening. The musicians are super talented. I tour with some of them, so when they are on the ground and showcasing the vibe, I just have to be a part of it once I’m available. Me affi big up the Dub Squad crew for giving emerging and young acts a place where they can showcase their talent and build a following,” he commented.

With performances by Lila Iké, Stalk Ashley, Ras-I, Armanii, Jesse Royal, Jaz Ellise, Yohan Marley, among others, phones of fans went up to capture the moment and based on the straightforward but impactful act of musicians joining together to create, Tuesday Service has grown to become a cultural institution.

As Tuesday Service continues, its vision stays the same, giving aspiring musicians a platform to truly evolve.
