The Trinidad and Tobago Darts Association (TTDA) National 501 League concluded in thrilling fashion Tuesday (August 4) night at the Kosmos Club in Port-of-Spain, bringing an end to another highly competitive season across the A, B and C Divisions.
A Division: E-Z Lines hold nerve
The race for the A Division championship went right down to the final night, with only two points separating defending champions E-Z Lines and De Original Game Shot (DOGS).
E-Z Lines produced a champion’s performance, defeating Flighted Friends 7-3 to successfully defend their National 501 League title. The champions wasted little time asserting themselves, racing to a 3-1 lead after the opening block before crucial singles victories from James Walklin and reserve player Daniel Sobrian extended the advantage to 5-1. Flighted Friends fought back to reduce the deficit to 5-3, but Adam Hepburn restored control before the final team event.
Despite E-Z Lines missing several match darts, Sobrian stepped up under pressure to pin double eight, sealing a deserved 7-3 victory and ensuring the title remained with E-Z Lines by a single point.
Despite the defeat, Flighted Friends enjoyed an impressive debut season in the top flight, finishing fourth and comfortably securing their A Division status. Meanwhile, DOGS did everything possible by defeating Drifters 7-3, but ultimately had to settle for runners-up honours. Just For Fun (JFF) Vikings completed the top three after edging relegated Triple Vision 6-4.
B Division: Game Shot cruise to promotion
Already crowned champions heading into the final round, Game Shot capped off a dominant campaign with another convincing 7-3 victory over Snipers. Their outstanding consistency throughout the season earns them a well-deserved promotion to the A Division for the next league tournament. Scorpions secured second place despite having a bye, while Shanghai Bulls finished the season strongly with a third consecutive victory, defeating Westerly Pirates to climb into fourth position.
C Division: Reckless secure promotion
The closest battle of the evening came in the C Division, where the championship remained undecided until the final matches. Team Reckless rose to the occasion, defeating Bulldogs 6-4 to capture the C Division title and secure promotion to the B Division. After taking an early 3-1 lead, Reckless maintained their composure throughout the singles before closing out victory in the deciding team event. Promotion rivals Sea Wolves entered the night just one point behind the leaders but were unable to capitalise, falling 7-3 to Shooters. Elsewhere, Random Squad and Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) Howz Dart battled to an entertaining 5-5 draw.
Busy schedule ahead for TTDA
The darts calendar shows no signs of slowing down. The next event will be the Seeded Luck of the Draw Doubles Grab Bag on Tuesday (August 11), at the Kosmos Club, followed one week later by the National Mickey Mouse Open on August 18. The T&T Dart Association (TTDA) Mickey Mouse League begins on August 25, while preparations are also underway for the ever-popular National Zonals, with trials set to begin ahead of the competition on September 27.
Following Trinidad and Tobago’s outstanding performances at both the BetVictor World Cup of Darts in Germany and the Caribbean Darts Cup in the Bahamas, the TTDA, in a release, stated it remains committed to building on that momentum by strengthening local competition, expanding participation across the country, and securing a flagship corporate partner to help elevate the sport to even greater heights.
