Earl Trapp Confirms Bid for Fifth Term as San Ignacio Mayor

After weeks of speculation surrounding his political future, long-serving San Ignacio/Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp has confirmed that he is not stepping away from electoral politics just yet. During a United Democratic Party press conference held this morning, Trapp officially announced that he will be seeking a fifth term as mayor of the twin towns when municipal elections are held in March of 2027.  The declaration comes amid reports of internal division within the UDP, particularly concerns emerging from the party’s western caucus.  Rumors had also been circulating in recent weeks suggesting that Trapp was preparing to exit frontline politics at the end of his current term.  However, speaking at today’s press conference, Trapp made it clear that he believes there is still more work to be done in the municipality and says he remains committed to continuing projects and initiatives for the twin towns.

Earl Trapp, Mayor of Santa Elena and San Ignacio: “For eight consecutive terms, first serving for four terms as councillor and now four terms as mayor I have the privilege of serving the people of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. In March 2027 I intend to once again place my record and leadership before the people as I seek a fifth term as mayor. Let me be very clear from the outset. I have confidence in the people of the Twin Towns. If elections are conducted freely, fairly and lawfully, I believe the voters will decide based on performance and results. Proven track record.”

Trapp has served as mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena since 2012 and is one of the UDP’s longest-serving municipal leaders.
