ECOLENS Summit 2026 To Convene Conservation Leaders In Belize City

The ECOLENS Summit 2026 is set to bring together conservation partners, policymakers, and environmental organizations in Belize City tomorrow, as stakeholders examine new approaches to protecting the country’s natural resources while supporting the communities that depend on them.  The one-day summit, themed “Focusing on People and Nature,” will take place tomorrow at the Belize City Civic Center from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Organizers say the event will highlight Belize’s progress toward global biodiversity conservation targets while fostering dialogue on how to strengthen environmental protection efforts moving forward.  Among the featured participants is Blue Bonds Director for The Nature Conservancy in Belize, Alana Godoy, who will be joining a panel discussion titled “Hat Tapik – Unlocking Sustainable Financing for Marine Protected Areas.” The discussion will focus on strategies to secure long-term funding for marine conservation, a critical issue as Belize continues to safeguard ecosystems that support fisheries, tourism, and coastal communities.  Godoy and other panelists are expected to explore how innovative financial mechanisms, including blue finance initiatives, can help ensure the sustainability of marine protected areas while balancing economic and environmental priorities.  The ECOLENS Summit is also designed to create space for open dialogue among national partners working in conservation and sustainable development. Organizers say the gathering will allow participants to examine what has worked so far, identify gaps that still exist, and discuss collaborative solutions for the future.  The event has drawn support from several partners in the environmental sector, including the Protected Areas Conservation Trust and the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future, with corporate sponsorship from Digi.  Throughout the day, discussions are expected to highlight Belize’s ongoing commitment to preserving its rich biodiversity while strengthening policies and partnerships that benefit both people and nature.
