Economist Keenan Falconer, believes an increase in the income tax threshold to $3.5 million would not be feasible within the next two years.
He came to the conclusion after analysing the manifesto tax proposals put forward by both political parties.
Mr. Falconer says a future administration must focus on widening the tax base to fund any proposals for increasing the income tax threshold.
He says this can be done through augmenting capital expenditure and supporting more growth inducing projects.
The economist says this would have a greater impact on the country’s economy in the long term.
