Edmund Marshalleck Sworn In as Temporary Justice of Appeal

Senior Counsel Edmund Andrew Marshalleck was today officially sworn in as a Temporary Justice of Appeal during a ceremony held at Belize House in Belmopan.  The oath of office was administered by Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam, where Justice Marshalleck pledged his commitment to uphold the rule of law with integrity, impartiality, competence, and fairness.  Marshalleck is one of Belize’s most recognized attorneys and has spent decades practicing in the fields of constitutional, commercial, banking, and civil law. He currently serves as Managing Partner at the Belize law firm Barrow & Company and has also served multiple terms as President of the Bar Association of Belize.  Born in Kingston, Jamaica to Belizean parents, Marshalleck was raised in Belmopan and attended Belmopan Comprehensive School before furthering his studies at St. John’s College. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics from Regis College in Colorado, followed by a law degree from the University of the West Indies and a Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, where he reportedly received top academic honors.  Before entering private legal practice, Marshalleck worked as a Research Officer at the Central Bank of Belize. He was called to the Belize Bar in 1995 and later elevated to Senior Counsel in 2009. Throughout his legal career, he has appeared in several high-profile constitutional and public law matters and has also served in leadership roles including Chairman of the Border Management Agency and a member of various national commissions and legal bodies.  Today’s appointment adds Marshalleck to the bench of Belize’s appellate court on a temporary basis, where he is expected to assist in hearing appeals and addressing matters before the Court of Appeal.
