Eight persons were arrested during a coordinated police operation in Mayaro on Wednesday. The exercise was part of the ongoing Summer Slam Operations under the State of Emergency Regulations 2025.
Between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service conducted multiple raids and searches in the district. The joint operation involved personnel from the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department, the Eastern Division Task Force, and the TTPS Canine Unit.
The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Paponette and supervised by Insp. Mahabir and Sgt. Mohammed. Officers from various supporting units were also deployed.
According to police reports, the arrests were made in connection with offenses involving narcotics, illegal ammunition, and prohibited items. Over one kilogram of cannabis, a quantity of cocaine, and several rounds of ammunition were seized. One of the arrested individuals was identified as a priority offender.
A Venezuelan national was also detained and is currently being interviewed by immigration authorities.
This operation was carried out as part of the TTPS’s efforts to enhance public safety and address criminal activity during the declared State of Emergency.
