A young primary school student is recovering from critical head and body injuries after being knocked down. The incident occurred at around four o’clock yesterday evening in front of the Hopkins Primary School. Eight-year-old, Carter Benedict was reportedly playing in front of the school when he was knocked down by a motorcycle and rushed to the village clinic and later transferred to the hospital in Dangriga. Love News spoke with his mom, Deeny Martinez, who gave an update on Carter’s condition, and the extent of injuries sustained.
Deeny Martinez, Mother: “He was taken to the clinic first and the doctor informed me that they will have to take him to Dangriga. So I went home to get his stuff, I saw the young man talking to the police but I didn’t really get the information who did it. So I just assumed that he did it. So when I came for his clothes and I went back that’s when I saw the police at the Health Center then I had asked him who did it and he said let us not focus on who did it let us just focus on the child. Then the ambulance came and we took the child to the hospital. He got about twelve to fifteen stitches and he got eight stitches to his head. His back has some scrapes on it and his face, like half of his face is swollen as well and he has little scraps on his foot. The doctor told me that it was a miracle the cycle didn’t damage his foot because we saw white tissue.”
Police are yet to issue an official report on the incident.
