Authorities have launched a full investigation into a fatal traffic incident that occurred late last night in Roaring Creek Village, Cayo District. Police say the victim has been identified as 69-year-old Daniel Puerto, a resident of the community, who was struck and killed on the George Price Highway. According to police, officers responded to a report around ten thirty between miles 48 and 49, in front of Frog’s Man warehouse. Upon arrival, they discovered Puerto’s body lying on the highway with severe injuries as well as a silver Foton Toano passenger minivan, with damages to the lower section of its front bumper. Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith gave an update on the incident in this morning’s press brief.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “The officers responded to the scene as a consequence of being alerted of a road traffic accident at that location. The responding officers observed a gravely injured male person whose identity was learned to be 69-year-old Daniel Puerto of Roaring Creek Village, who was seen in an unresponsive state on the highway. And the officers also observed a silver in color minivan which showed sign of damage to the front bumper. What the investigators have so far gathered is that sometime after 10:25 pm, the driver of the minivan was travelling in that vicinity when the minivan collided with Puerto, who is alleged to have been sitting down on the highway at that time.”
Just minutes before the incident, one eyewitness explained that he and the victim were consuming alcohol. He noted that while they tried to get him home due to his intoxication, he had refused.
As noted by the Police, 47-year-old Michael McFadzean of Teakettle Village, has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
