The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has advised that particulate matter data is unavailable on its website and social media platforms due to maintenance and technical upgrades to air quality monitoring equipment.

The Authority stated that other local monitoring systems are reporting elevated particulate levels linked to Saharan dust activity across the region. The influx has resulted in hazy conditions and reduced air quality in Trinidad and Tobago.

The EMA said members of the public, including older adults, young children, pregnant women and persons with heart disease, asthma, respiratory conditions or allergies, should take precautions.

The Authority advised individuals to avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity. It also advised limiting outdoor exposure, keeping windows closed and using prescribed inhalers or medication as directed.

The EMA stated that individuals experiencing difficulty breathing, chest discomfort or severe symptoms should seek medical attention.

The Authority said it recognises the importance of real-time air quality data and is working to restore monitoring capability at all stations. It stated that updates will be issued when the stations are operational.

The EMA encouraged the public to monitor official channels
