Treasure Beach ended their four-match losing streak, while ending Molynes’ five-game unbeaten run, after a 2-1 win at Drewsland stadium yesterday.
Daniel Hardy fired the St Elizabeth team ahead after six minutes, and although Tyrique Wilson equalised for Molynes in the 17th minute, Treasure Beach secured all three points, thanks to Karim Bryan’s goal in first-half added time.
Treasure Beach coach Kemar Ricketts was please to collect his first three points in five matches.
“It’s three more points in the bag. It has been a rough return. We won our first encounter back against Portmore (after Hurricane Melissa), and many would have had us to lose that game.
“The Christmas break put a damper on how we were preparing, but we were coming off a four-game losing streak. So it was wonderful to get three points.”
Treasure Beach jumped into an early lead when Hardy controlled a cross from the right inside the area and hit a shot on the turn past goalkeeper Authur Lamoth.
However, Molynes responded positively and levelled the score through Wilson’s deflected free kick from the edge of the area.
Both teams continued to trade good attacks after, and Treasure Beach got the go-ahead goal through a bit of fortune and horrible goalkeeping, as Bryan’s speculative shot slipped from Lamoth’s grasp and over the line, to provide the advantage going into the break.
The two teams continued to battle to and fro in the second half, and both had opportunities to score.
Treasure Beach defender Richard Brown had to clear off the line, as Molynes threatened from a corner.
However, Treasure Beach should have put the game to bed in added time, but despite a disappointing finish in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, it was not required as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the St Elizabeth club.
Molynes coach Jermaine Thomas said Treasure Beach showed more desire on the day.
“Today we were very flat and very disappointing with our attitude. We started flat and couldn’t get out of that. They were a little bit more purposeful and they wanted it more,” he said.
The teams are a point and two places apart on the table. Molynes are 10th on 16 points, while Treasure Beach are 12th with 15.
