Energy Minister meets with THA officials

Officials of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA)’s Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development held discussions with Minister of Energy Roodal Moonilal on what was described as “various issues of mutual interest” and August 3 THA statement says.

The meeting was held at the Division’s conference room on July 30. The meeting was followed by a tour of the Studley Park Quarry and a meeting with the management of Studley Park Enterprise Limited (SPEL).

Moonilal was joined by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Penelope Bradshaw-Niles and Director of Minerals Monty Beharry. Representing the THA at the meeting was Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development Assemblyman Trevor James, Assistant Secretary Terance Baynes, Administrator Dianne Baker-Henry and advisor to the Secretary Collis Brown.

Ministry officials committed to advance the cause of allowing royalties accrued in Tobago to remain in the island for the benefit of Tobago’s economy.

The THA said ministry gave its support of the Scarborough Redevelopment Project and, as such, the ministry will facilitate discussions with the National Gas Company.

With regard to the mining operations in Tobago, the ministry said it would consider making THA the licensing authority for quarrying in Tobago.
