The Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ is finalizing preparations for special services electors to go to the polls on Friday, August 29.
According to the EOJ, 45,455 special services electors are eligible to vote in the General Election.
Among this number are 12,793 from the police, 5,126 from the military, and 27,536 election day workers.
The special electors will vote at 215 locations across the island including schools, churches, police stations, community centres and military bases.
The Representation of the People Act makes provisions for Election Day Workers, the police and military to vote ahead of the rest of the population, to ensure they are available for duty on Election Day.
The EOJ is reminding Special Services electors that if they do not use the opportunity to vote on Friday, August 29, they will not be able to do so on September 3.
This as their names have been extracted from the general voters’ list.
Meanwhile, veteran political commentator Shalman Scott says the choice of the security forces is usually an indicator of how the rest of the population will vote on election day.
