It’s full speed ahead to the September 3 general election.
That’s the word from Director of Elections, Glasspole Brown.
Following what he’s reporting as a successful Nomination Day, Brown says the EOJ is now focused on voting day for persons under the category, ‘Special Services’.
Under the Representation of the People Act, provisions are made for Election Day workers and members of the police and military forces to cast their vote ahead of the rest of the population, to ensure they are available for duty on Election Day.
About 50,000 persons are eligible to cast early ballots.
The EOJ’s preparations will include assigning symbols to independent candidates, printing of ballots, distribution of supplies and preparation of polling stations.
Meanwhile, Brown says the PNP and JLP nominated candidates for all 63 constituencies, while the Jamaica Progressive Party, JPP, nominated 47 candidates.
Seven candidates were nominated by the United Independents’ Congress, UIC.
