EOJ, Police: All Systems in Place For Nomination Day

The Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ, says all is in place for today’s Nomination Day activities.

He says discussions will be taking place with the police to ensure things go to plan.

And, the police are expected to be out in their numbers to maintain order throughout nomination day proceedings.

The Kingston Central police say they are prepared for any eventuality.

Central Kingston has been a hotbed of tense political campaigning between the JLP and the PNP in recent weeks.

Over a week ago shots were fired in the direction of sitting JLP MP, Donovan Williams while he was mounting a campaign billboard.

A party vehicle was damaged by a bullet.

The PNP claimed that based on its intelligence, the shooting was not politically motivated.

That matter is still being investigated by the police.

During a tour of the constituency, Prime Minister and JLP Leader Dr Andrew Holness labelled PNP supporters in the area as “angry”.

Commanding Officer for the Kingston Central Division, Superintendent Berrisford Williams says there will be enough boots on the ground to maintain peace in the area.

Meanwhile, the Area Five police met with prospective candidates as part of the preparation to have an incident-free Nomination day.

Area Five comprises: St. Catherine North, St. Catherine South, St. Thomas and St. Andrew North.
