JLP representative on the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, ECJ, Tom Tavares Finson, says the Electronic Voter Identification System, EVIS, could be expanded for future general elections to verify electors.
He was speaking on Nationwide@5 on Tuesday.
The matter of verifying electors came to the fore this week after PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, told supporters that the party will equip all its indoor agents with integrity lamps on election day.
He says the integrity lamps will be used to verify voter IDs.
However, the ECJ, in a statement on Tuesday, declared that no integrity lamp, outside of the official equipment it issues, will be used to verify electors.
The ECJ says only the Presiding Officer appointed by the Electoral Office is authorized to verify voter IDs.
Tavares Finson says no other person, including indoor agents, has such authority.
