Executive Cup of the Southern Football Association (SFA) defending champion Moruga FC moved to the quarterfinals over the weekend courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Project 11 FC at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.
The Moruga men were among eight teams to see first-round action at the Marabella facility, while four other teams—Trippy FC (the 2025 League winner), Diamond United, Marabella SC, and Smart Football Aces—all received byes in the first-round draw.
Moruga sent a stern warning to their competitors of their intention to retain their title when Atiba Marshall fired them ahead in the 25th minute on the outside ground of the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium. However, their celebrations lasted just ten minutes before Kelig Perez levelled the score in the 35th minute.
The rest of the match belonged to the champions. Returning from the halftime break, Moruga restored their advantage in the 70th minute courtesy of a strike from Chris Collins. With the match entering its closing stages, Anderson Toussaint sealed the victory with a 74th-minute goal.
With the win, Moruga became one of four teams to progress to the round of eight. Galaxy FC also advanced over the weekend after thrashing Mascall FC 4-1. Four players got on the scoresheet for Galaxy, beginning with Thane Devonish, who opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.
As in the Moruga versus Project 11 encounter, the Mascall outfit drew level on the stroke of halftime through Tyrique Lucas.
Undaunted, Galaxy piled on the pressure after the restart and were rewarded with a goal in the 50th minute from Akini Ramsey. That strike appeared to have taken the game away from the Point Fortin team, before Kaedon Robertson and Dylon Bruce put the result beyond doubt with goals in the 78th and 86th minutes, respectively.
A day later on the Mannie Ramjohn outside ground, Uprising Youth came from a goal down to edge Cedros FC 2-1. Kevin Moodie’s opening goal in the 55th minute was cancelled out by strikes from Sylvester Teesdale in the 62nd minute and Ezekiel Kesar in the 64th minute.
In the final match of the round, Penal Is Love Youth Movement advanced to the quarterfinals without kicking a ball following a default win over Cedar Hill SC.
