Family of Delecia Flowers Frustrated Over Stalled Murder Probe

Tonight, frustration continues to grow for the family of 26-year-old Delecia Flowers, the mother who was brutally killed inside her home earlier this year. Her relatives say the investigation has reached a troubling standstill, leaving them without answers and without closure.  Flowers was found dead in her home under violent circumstances, an incident that shocked the community and ignited calls for justice. Months later, however, her mother, Desiree Moody, told Love News that she fears the case is slipping through the cracks.  She explained that every attempt to get an update from investigators has resulted in conflicting information and what she describes as “a runaround.” Most recently, she says she was informed that the investigation has been put on hold, allegedly because the detective handling the matter is currently tied up with another case.

Desiree Moody, Mother of Delcia Flowers: “It’s like our family is going into a scramble and like we’re scrambling to find out what happened in Belize because I don’t live in Belize City and it’s like we’re not getting any results from the police officers, none at all. No kind of help. Those police officers went to my daughter’s house, they did what they had to do or half did what they were to do because at the end of the day they didn’t secure my daughter’s space where she died. They locked the door yes, no yellow tape. The next morning when we got up just to find out that her baby’s father broke the house’s door, went into the house and cleaned out the thing and burnt up what he wanted to burn up and in there there was evidence that the police were supposed to go back in that house, behind the bed there was a scissors that the person was stabbing her with in her side and when she flung her hand the scissors fell behind the bed. All of those things got burnt and the police haven’t held anyone for those kinds of things. We already made a report against those things and the police are not assist us. It’s like they’re working along with the person that hurt my daughter and those things are hurtful to know because they are the police that we look up to to get justice. That is a crime scene and you went on a crime scene to go disturb the crime scene you were supposed to be held and find out why you did what you did. And the police didn’t do any of that. My daughter had a relationship out there with a man Miss let me tell you something I’m not the police but you see me ? My daughter died and I believe that the police were supposed to investigate everybody right down from me the mother. My daughter lived all her life at Belize. My daughter never got charged or arrested or get into problems. My daughter was straight from work to home. My daughter was working at the Audubon Society. My daughter doesn’t fool around with people. She was a little girl that went to school. She went to one of the nicest schools by the seaside. I don’t know what happened that day, that night, whatever happened until they killed my daughter I don’t know and that is the question I want to know. What did my daughter that was so bad to somebody that they had to go into her house and brutally kill her. For what reason ?”

Despite repeated calls and visits to the station, the family says they remain in the dark about key developments, including whether suspects have been questioned, whether forensic results have returned, or whether the case is being actively supervised.  As they continue to wait for answers, Flowers’ mother says the family has been struggling emotionally, especially as the holiday season approaches.

Desiree Moody, Mother of Delcia Flowers: “Nothing. Me personally got up and went by the hub and tried to get a little counseling for my son and my grandson because they grew up together like brothers and when they started Highschool they started off together and they lived together so the two of them are going through a whole lot. So me personally I got up and I said I would go to the hub to try to get some counseling for them and even myself because I’m going through a whole lot and nobody has reached out to try to assist me or help me in any kind of way.”

Delecia Flowers was killed inside her home on Friday, October 24 on Complex Street, Belize City.  The 35-year-old was brutally beaten, allegedly at the hands of her estranged lover. Delecia’s daughter who was at home with her, was also injured in the invasion.
