The withdrawal of charges against Christy Guzman has sparked strong public reaction and has urged the sister of the deceased to make a public appeal. Wilson Rodriguez’ sister, Julissa Schubert, is appealing directly to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to reconsider the decision. Speaking with Love News today, Schubert said her family is struggling to understand why the charges were dropped and insists that the matter deserves a full and fair review by the prosecution.

Julissa Schubert, Sister of Wilson Hernandez: “Oh my goodness, miss. Just to know that my brother called me and he said, “Julie, Wilson got shot. Dalia shot him and they think he’s not going to make it.” And I’m like, damn, please, like, I’m praying and I’m begging God. And I’m like, please just let Wilson live. Please just let him live and he will leave Dalia alone and I’m like, I’m in my house and I’m screaming and I’m just asking God to like, please just let him live so that he would leave this relationship. And then when my mom called and she said that she’s at the hospital and that he died, gosh. Honestly, it’s sad that his life, you know, was taken away and they see it as something that none of them are getting charged. The fact that they feel like, oh no charges should be brought against them, it just feels like a big slap on the face for all of us. I mean, who draws a gun out without not wanting to do something, you understand? The fact that now it’s being seen as self-defense. How can it be self-defense if Chris’s life was never in danger? My brother got shot on his left hand. You understand? He wasn’t shot front on like in a self-defense type of way. He was shot on the side. So the fact that it’s ruled as self-defense, it just feels unfair because she didn’t have to shoot him. Fire a warning shot.”
Schubert’s comments come as the situation continues to draw national attention, not only because the charges were withdrawn, but also due to recent public allegations posted to social media by Dalia Vellos, who claimed she was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of Wilson Hernandez and said she feared for her life. Julissa described the relationship between Vellos and Hernandez as toxic, asserting that both individuals displayed abusive behavior toward each other. Schubert warned that the situation should not be framed one-sidedly and urged the public to consider the full context before passing judgment.
Julissa Schubert, Sister of Wilson Hernandez: ‘I remember Dalia called me. She was so angry that she had found out that Wilson was seeing somebody and she’d was like, “Oh, I’m finished with your brother. I’m tired of this.” Blah, blah, blah. And I’m like, Leave. Just leave. Leave him alone. Let him feel that you know that’s the cause of cheating. Just leave. I don’t condone cheating and Wilson knows that. She used to beat him. He used to beat her and it ended up in her being beaten badly. And I would never condone a man putting a hand on another female. Hell no. I mean, I ended up getting into a big argument with Wilson over that. Because that’s not right. I would never condone something like that. So for her to say that we never intervened, what she wanted me to do, I don’t know. Did she want me to what? Kidnap him and lock him up in a room or something ? I don’t know what she wanted me to do. The most that I could have done was speak to him. I did so. They ended up getting into an argument at that time. And she told my brother that I had texted her and said that, oh, you’re here and your sister is telling me to leave you and to get a restraining order against you. And then my brother called me and he’s like, Julie, like, basically I’m getting into their relationship and how, why would I tell Dalia to leave him? And I’m like Wilson I found out what you did. And I told him, I said, you should never lay a hand on another female, you would go crazy if you knew, a man would lay hands on me. I said, you know, I spoke to him, I told him, leave Dalia that relationship is toxic. If you are out there with someone else, just leave. What happened? I don’t know. I spent days texting Dalia back and forth asking her if she had left, nothing. A day my brother sent me a voice message and in the days that it happened he sent me a voice message I heard Dalia in the back room, like laughing or saying something with like a friend, and I’m like, okay, well, get back together.”
According to Vellos’ public statement, many do not see the long-term trauma she endured. She described losing her peace, safety, and sense of self long before the deadly confrontation.
She recounts years of alleged physical and sexual abuse, including beatings, threats, and intimidation. She says she hid for days at a time but could never fully escape. She also claims Hernandez maintained a positive public image that masked his violent behavior behind closed doors.
