A quick response from neighbors and firefighters helped prevent major losses during a house fire on Aloe Vera Street on Friday night. Shortly after seven o’clock, Police were alerted of a three-bedroom cement bungalow house on fire. Officers responded and found a 22 by 32 feet structure being consumed by fire. Fire personnel led by Station Officer Keron Oshon arrived shortly after and his team successfully extinguished the blaze before it could spread throughout the home. Initial investigations revealed that the homeowner, 39-year-old Dayan Pelayo, was in her bedroom when she was alerted by her daughter, of smoke and flames coming from the middle bedroom. With assistance from neighbors, Pelayo and her family were able to remove most of their belongings before the fire intensified. Pelayo told police that no one had been present in the middle room at the time and that the only item in use there was a tablet charging on the bed. The blaze destroyed the middle bedroom, while the rest of the building sustained water damage from firefighting efforts. Authorities reported that neither the house nor its contents were insured, and the total cost of damage remains unknown at this time.
