Financial Services Commission Opens Consultation on New Digital Assets Bill

The Financial Services Commission, or FSC, has opened public consultation on the proposed Digital Assets Bill, 2026.  The draft legislation is intended to establish rules for digital-asset activities conducted in or from within Belize. This could include businesses that provide cryptocurrency and other services using blockchain or similar technology.  According to the FSC, the proposed law is intended to encourage responsible innovation while protecting consumers and ensuring that companies operate fairly and transparently. It would also seek to prevent market abuse and bring Belize’s digital-asset industry in line with international standards.  The commission says it wants to develop Belize into a properly regulated and internationally respected location for digital-asset businesses.  The consultation is open to financial institutions, professional associations, technology companies, investors, consumers and other interested persons.  Anyone wishing to participate can review the proposed bill, consultation paper and comments sheet on the FSC’s website. Submissions should clearly identify the section of the bill being addressed, explain the concern and recommend any proposed changes.  Written comments must be submitted by September 8.  The FSC says the public’s feedback will help determine whether the proposed rules are practical and suitable for Belize before the bill moves forward.
