Fire officials responded to a small fire at Kapok Hotel this morning.
Guardian Media understands the fire broke out in Room 695 on the sixth floor, which was unoccupied at the time.

Wrightson Road fire officers received the call around 5.50 am and arrived to find thick, dark smoke coming from the room at the back of the compound. Crews ventilated the area and contained the incident.

Officials believe the cause of the fire is linked to a defective air-conditioning unit located at the base of the wall. The unit was destroyed, but the room sustained mostly smoke damage.

The hotel had about 50 guests. No guests or staff members were injured.
