Fire Damages Belama Phase 4 Home, Cause Under Investigation

Police are investigating a house fire reported last night in Belama Phase 4, Belize City.  According to police, just after nine o’clock, information was received of a fire at a residence in the area. Crime Investigation Branch (CIB) Northside personnel responded and, upon arrival, met 32-year-old Damian Sanchez, a Belizean call center agent of Green Street.  Police also observed an unpainted zinc structure measuring approximately 20 feet by 20 feet, elevated about eight feet off the ground, which had sustained fire damage. Initial investigations revealed that Sanchez had locked and secured the house on Monday, December 29.  He was later alerted by a neighbor around 9:07 p.m. on Sunday night, after fire was seen inside the house.  Fire personnel responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze. The value of the damage remains unknown, and police noted that both the house and its contents were not insured.  The scene was visited and the matter remains under investigation.
