Fire One Fireworks has announced that all its stores and satellite locations will remain closed on Independence Day (August 31), in support of the Government’s declaration of a National Day of Prayer and Reflection in place of the traditional parade and fireworks display.

Speaking at Fire One’s Macoya warehouse yesterday, marketing manager Vishwani Guiness said the company’s decision was guided by respect for the Government and the current State of Emergency.

“Independence is a time for unity, prayer and reflection,” Guiness explained.

“We felt it was important to come together as a nation and show respect at this time. Our hope is that the country uses this moment to pause, reflect and stand together.”

She also dismissed speculation that the company would suffer financially from the cancellation of Independence Day displays.

“There is a misconception that Fire One pays for these shows. That is not true,” she clarified.

“The state usually funds the displays, and we supply the design, equipment and materials. So, we are not losing money because there is no show this year.”

In support of the Government’s directive, Fire One has also welcomed the restriction of Independence Day celebrations to silent fireworks for private use. The measure is intended to reduce noise disturbance for vulnerable individuals, the elderly, and pets, while still allowing families to celebrate.

Guiness said as the country’s leading fireworks provider, Fire One already carried silent fireworks as part of its product line, and they met strict international safety standards.

“We know people look forward to fireworks on Independence night, but this year is different,” she said.

“That doesn’t mean people can’t celebrate.

“Silent fireworks are an option many don’t know about—they give you the colour and effects without the noise.”

She noted that Fire One had been expanding its range of silent products, including fountains, ground spinners, and select Roman candles.

“These products are family-friendly, pet-friendly and meet international safety standards,” Guiness added.

“We’ve been developing this department for some time, working closely with our suppliers to ensure quality and safety.”

“If you go to our shop tab, you can scroll down to the silent fireworks or pet-friendly fireworks section,” Guiness added.

“We want people to know the option is there. You can still celebrate, but in a way that is quieter and more considerate to others.”

“Independence is not just about fireworks,” she said.

“It is about who we are as a people, and how we support one another. This year, more than ever, it is about unity.”
