The Firearms and Ammunition Control Board, FACB, is tonight informing the public of updated procedures and important changes surrounding firearm licensing in Belize. In a newly issued public notice, the Board has outlined detailed requirements for individuals and companies applying for firearm licenses, including Special Protection Licenses, Armed Guard Licenses for security firms, and Firearm Safety Instructor Licenses. Under the updated guidelines, applicants must meet strict criteria, including proof of identity, police records, character references, and certification from an approved firearm safety instructor. Authorities emphasize that even when all requirements are met, approval is not guaranteed, as each application undergoes a thorough review process. The FACB is also reminding the public that all fees must be paid directly to the Treasury Department or authorized cashiers, warning that paying any police officer or agent outside of official channels is an offence. Meanwhile, in a separate notice, the Board announced that certain firearm accessories, such as red dot sights, telescopic scopes, and tactical lights, can now be fitted to licensed firearms without requiring additional approval, once they do not alter the weapon’s core function or classification. In a significant development, the FACB has also confirmed that the moratorium on new .223 caliber rifle license applications will be lifted effective June 1. The restriction, originally introduced in 2024 pending an audit, is being removed after authorities determined that the delay was no longer justified. Officials say the move will allow for the resumption of lawful applications under the existing Sports Hunter License category, provided all requirements are met. The Firearms and Ammunition Control Board is encouraging members of the public to seek clarification where necessary and to ensure full compliance with the law when applying for or modifying firearm licenses.///////
